How do we explain to children what a psychologist does?

At TREC PsychologyWe know that sometimes it can be a challenge to explain to children what we do. Today, we share with you two ways we use to make it more understandable:

1️⃣ PROBLEM SOLVERS

Just as when the computer fails and we visit the technician, psychologists help to solve emotional problems. If you feel bad, if you are angry or if you don't know how to handle certain situations, we help you to learn and regulate your emotions, without scolding or punishing, simply by solving the problem.

2️⃣ THE DOCTOR OF EMOTIONS

Just as we go to the dentist to take care of our teeth or to the paediatrician when we have a tummy ache, psychologists are like doctors of emotions. We use tools, like the story of "The Doctor of Emotions", to help us understand and manage those feelings that sometimes complicate our lives.

📘 The Tale of "The Doctor of Emotions".In this story, a girl goes to the emotional doctor because she has an "emotional tummy ache". Together with the psychologist, she learns to understand and manage her tangled emotions, using an "emotional thermometer" to measure and control their intensity.

🛠️ Emotional Regulation ToolkitIn addition, we build a "toolbox of emotional regulation", where we store strategies that help us manage our emotions, making them more manageable and less overwhelming.
