SELF-ESTEEM AND SELF-ACCEPTANCE
Self-acceptance is very important as this is the driving force for a full and healthy life.
In adolescence, low self-esteem and lack of self-acceptance is manifested through different behaviours and/or feelings such as shyness, fear, anguish, sadness, insecurity, excessive dependence on adults and the tendency not to carry out any academic, sporting or social activity for fear of failure and/or rejection, as well as lying and blaming others for their mistakes and showing aggressive behaviour.
The adolescent with good self-acceptance shows a desire for self-improvement, faces challenges, takes responsibility for his or her actions, shows confidence in himself or herself and his or her abilities, and establishes positive interactions with others.
It is very important to detect the symptoms and to assess the adolescent's perception of his or her experiences in relation to the different areas: academic, social, family and self.
By intervening as early as possible, we as parents can help our children to develop a good self-concept.
