Dyslexia is the problem related to the learning and acquisition of reading and writing. In general, the intellectual quotient of these children is normal and there are no other physical or psychological problems that could explain these difficulties.
It is a cognitive problem that affects the linguistic skills associated with writing, the transition from verbal to visual coding, short-term memory, the perception of order and sequencing. It affects the reading and writing process and fundamentally affects the skills of phonological awareness (ability to identify and manipulate sounds of words), verbal memory and\/or phonological memory (ability to retain the sequential order of verbal material for a short period of time, such as remembering a list of words or digits or a list of instructions) and verbal processing speed (the time needed to process familiar verbal information of letters and digits).
Dyslexia can be associated with other learning disorders (ADHD, dyscalculia) and\/or learning problems such as dysgraphia (difficulty in writing) or dysorthographia (difficulties in acquiring spelling rules).
